How I plan to change the activity to integrate technology:
Instead of printing copies of a crossword and handing it out to students, I would change the lesson up and turn it into a class activity. The students would be split into teams, where one team would be responsible for playing a song sample that corresponds with the crosswords puzzle from an audio player, and the other team would have to come up with the composers and enter it into the crossword puzzle on the smartboard. The winning team who came up with the most amount of answers, will get to go to http://www.musiclearningcommunity.com for 15 minutes to play a music game of their choice, while the teams that do not win will spend 15 continuing regular jazz band rehearsal.

Technology integration:

There are three types of technology that can be integrated into this lesson plan:

1)Smartboard

2)Audio player, and speakers

3)Interactive website

Objectives:

1) The smartboard will be used as the students come up to the board to enter their answers, in teams as a class. The students will practice using the smartboard to enter their answers into the crossword puzzle as the class plays the game.

2)As the students play the game, they will be using an audio player and speakers. The opposing team will be required to play a sample of music, which will correspond with the crossword puzzle, for the other team to come up with an answer.  Each student will get to practice using the audio player as their turn comes, and will get to practice finding the corresponding song to play for the other team to guess the answer.

3) The winning teams will get an oppertunity to use the interactive website (http://www.musiclearningcommunity.com), to find and play one music game of their choice for 15 minutes.

Software and Hardware-
1) CD of various jazz artist samples, a CD player and speakers, or computer to play CD.
2) Smartboard software capability to be able to edit and make crossword puzzles.
3) Access to internet inorder to use interactive website

1)Teacher needs to understand and be able to demonstrate to the students how to correctly use the smartboard.
2)Teachers needs to be able to demonstrate how to use the CD player and Disc.
3)Teacher needs to have thorough knowledge on how to use the games from the interactive website, to help teach the students how to use them properly.

1)Students needs to have skills to be able to use smartboard.
2)Students need to be able to use use the CD plater
3)Students need to know how to use the world wide web, computer controls, to play game on interactive webiste.

Reflection-
Students will not only be assesed by their musical knowledge, but they will be getting practice on important technological devices that they may not have used before.  They will also get the oppertunity to use their team player skills to work together to be able to identify and perform tasks on these important devices. This activity is built as a method for students to learn something new, while their musical knowledge is informally being assessed.
