I feel as if the integration of technology into classrooms is such an important aspect, and believe that every classroom needs to include as much as possible. Not only does technology give students an opportunity to self-learn, but it also can offer students hands-on learning, a variety of different approaches to learning new information, and can even be used as a motivational tool. Not to mention, the new generation and world depends on the usage of technology, so therefore students need to have a good understanding of how to use a variety of different technologies to help them in the real world.
I believe that every student learns very differently from each other. As some students learn easily through listening, others may learn better through visualizing or having hands-on learning. This is why I believe technology is so important in the classroom; because technology gives students so many different ways to learn. By integrating audio samples, midi files, videos, iPods, podcasts in the classroom, students can learn by listening. By using computers, smartboards, videos, educational games, and a variety of different softwares, students can learn by visualizing. Not to mention, almost all of those technologies are hands-on in one way or another. These are only a few of the different ways students can learn through technology.
I plan to integrate a variety of different softwares when I teach music. For example, when teaching students how to compose music, I can have them use Finale, a notation software that allows them to listen to what they have created. This program also allows them to use synthesizers and keyboards to compose the music onto the computer. Another technology I plan on using is SmartMusic. This software is so neat, because it helps students practice their instruments. With SmartMusic, as a teacher, I can assign them different pieces of music to practice through the software, and as they practice it, the program will actually let them know when they make an error. After the student gets better at the music, they can then send me a recording of them practicing, from which I can then evaluate it. Other technologies I plan to include are smartboard, clickers, computers, and streaming audio. With many of these technologies, my students will be able to learn at their own pace, in their own home, and at school aswell.
Not only do I think it is important to include technology in the classrooms because it gives students an opportunity to learn through a variety of different ways, but I believe it is essential to offer these technologies to students because the real world depends on it. As more and more generations come, technology is becoming more and more demanding in the world. I remember the day, when our elementary school got their first computers. We had one computer per classroom, they were all “Apples,” and were extremely limited to what they could do. Now that I am in college, the world depends on computers, aswell as an endless list of other technologies. As this new generation of students go through school, it is important that they know how to use all of these technologies, so that when they go out into the working world they will be able to use all of the technologies, along with the ability to advance theirselves as new technologies arise.
